YETA NALUTE MUCABATU THE 6th LITUNGA
YETA NALUTE “MUCHABATU” was a King of the Lozi people who ruled from the village of Namatanda (Nasilala village just after Lealui). Namatanda was prior called Imutenda.
This King apparently had a habit of eating human beings.
When he planned to eat a human being; he would organize a dance called “Ngomalume” which is a dance for men.
So YETA NALUTE would be there watching and when he sees a well nourished man, he would just point at the man and that’s a signal that he should be killed and cooked.
A senior Chief called “Induna Likunutu” will then invite the chosen man to the side and have him stabbed to death. His head cut and he is cooked and served to the king to eat.
The man would be dead without a trace.
This went on for sometime, until eventually when the villagers got fed up with the King’s way of life.
The villagers held a meeting and discussed the way to handle this cruel king.
The resolution of the meeting was to first Kill the Senior Chief “Induna Likunutu.”
So they killed a crocodile, got it’s brain and prepared a traditional drink called “ilya” and mixed it then served the Chief with that concoction.
The Chief consumed it and in no time; he was pronounced dead.
Once Induna Likunutu was out of the way; the council scheduled a meeting to go hunting with the King. Not knowing what was coming for him; the King agreed and off they went to Liuwa Park to hunt.
When they got to “Lwanginga river” in Kalabo, the paddlers jeopardized the boat and let the water in.
The boat sank and all the paddlers swam out to safety.
The King however couldn’t swim because according to Lozi tradition; if the King swims, he is swimming out of Kingship. So Yeta Nalute chose to die a King, so he didn’t swim but rather he drowned.
After his death, King Yeta Nalute was Replaced by King Ngombala.
